When it comes to deciding on the best topic for your website or blog it will always come back to keyword research. Yes you may have heard of this many times but how many times have you actually used keyword research when setting up a blog?

I received an email from Clive asking about Choosing your Blog Domain for a business blog. Clive gave me a list of domains (all related to his name) he was thinking of and wanted to know what I thought. Since he asked nicely I sent him a long reply but I thought I’d condense it for you.
If you can it’s nice to get your name as a domain, I have 3 versions of my name as a domain, one is linked to selling toys and the other two have place holder text on them. Still trying to think of how I’m going to use them.

Ok, you have an idea for a blog, so what’s next? Well let’s say you buy the domain bloggingisking.com (sorry that’s mine) you will need to host it. Then you use word-press or similar and your blog is live.

Have you considered who will be reading your blog? Ask the question, who will benefit from my online blog. Will the information you provide target one gender or both? Both genders seek some type of information and you will need to know so you can target or write to the people reading your posts and pages.

When it comes to using or setting up RSS feeds in blogs it’s about as straight forward and easy as it can be. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and if you use it the way it’s already set up on most themes and word press you won’t have any problems.

One of the problems with running a blog if you’re a small or one man outfit is that the full responsibility for the blog falls to you! One factor that is often over looked is blog design! When you’re choosing one you need to think of how easy on the eye it is and how easy it is to navigate. The main content which in my opinion should be pages and then updates like this one are post which usually comprises the latest news are essential elements to your blog design. Ensure that they are visible from the main page, and make sure your visitor doesn’t have to start clinking links to get to it.
